Post graduation in today’s day and age is a necessity in order to keep one updated with the changing world and demographics. After completing a Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery course (BAMS), a post-graduation degree is a must. All the subjects studied during the BAMS course are equally important and one can choose the right subject for post graduation based on his/her interest and career goals.
The subject Rachana Sharira, the basics that you learn related to human anatomy during your first year BAMS is one of the choices that you select if interested to join academic or do research. Rachana Sharira has always been an interesting subject; I hope you all will agree. Every doctor has fond memories in relation to Anatomy and dissection. Rachana Sharira covers a wide array of subjects like modern Anatomy and basic science related sharira as explained in Ayurvedic text.
Rachana Sharira is considered as a pre-clinical subject. In general, post graduation course is a three years course. The first year includes various aspects like research methodology and a subject based on Rachana Sharira. The following year is PG final which is spread across two years. It has four papers:
- Garbha Sharira
- Koshtanga sira dhamanee
- Srotas sharira
- Marma asthi sandhi peshee sharira
- Tantrika sharira
The practical aspect includes cadaveric dissection, hands on training on the preservation of specimen and forming charts and models. The primary objective of PG Rachana Sharira is to make an academic well versed with ayurveda and anatomy.
As per every post graduation course, student has to pursue a dissertation related to the principles of Rachana Sharira. This may be clinical or non-clinical. For example, topic can be clinical like “anatomical causes of heel pain” or it may be non-clinical like “compilation of applied anatomy of organs from ayurvedic samhitas”. This dissertation needs to be completed within the stipulated time of two years under respective guides.
After completion, one can join any ayurvedic college as a teacher in the department of Rachana Sharira. You being both an academician and a physician at a time, this can be a satisfying career option for you as Ayurvedic professional. With the knowledge of Rachana Sharira, clinical practice becomes much easier as it is the foundation of medicinal practice and surgery. Many ayurvedic hospitals do prefer MD ayurveda candidates as consultants.
Rachana Sharira also creates a strong foundation to pursue research in various fields related to Ayurveda like Panchakarma, Streerog, Prasutitantra or Shalakyatantra.
