Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic and progressive disorder that impacts upon how the body utilizes the sugar it gets from food. Diabetes is marked by high levels of sugar in the blood called as hyperglycemia. The food (carbohydrate) we eat breaks down into simple sugar and it also produces a hormone called insulin that signals body’s cell to uptake glucose from blood. In diabetes, the body either stops making or utilizing insulin or both leading to increased levels of sugar in the blood. There are two types of diabetes viz; Type 1 diabetes (the body doesn’t make enough insulin or stops making it) and Type 2 diabetes (the body’s cells don’t respond to insulin i.e. insulin resistance).
